Downtown Museum Day 2013

We went downtown on Saturday for the annual Downtown Museum Day.  The weather was perfect at about 75 degrees!  I can't believe it is already starting to feel like fall here.  We started out at the Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum.  We enjoyed learning about the history of the Memphis railroad, and the kids loved the model trains.

After that we went to the Memphis Farmer's Market and walked around for a little while.  Then we headed to the Fire Museum of Memphis.  The little kids loved playing in the fire trucks and getting to practice putting out a fire.  A very nice retired fireman walked us around and told us all about the history of the Memphis fire department and fire trucks.   He also taught us a lot about fire safety after taking us through a home fire simulation.

After lunch at the Flying Fish, we headed over to the Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art.  They had a very large collection of Asian art that was very interesting and unusual.  Most of this was lost on the kids!  (The Judaic art section was closed for construction while we were there.)

Skateboarders

Nana bought Griffin a skateboard when we went to Little Rock a few weeks ago, and he is obsessed with all things skateboarding right now.  He has been watching youtube videos of Tony Hawk doing tricks so that he can try them, and he has also drawn several pictures of him to submit to Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine.  He eats his breakfast as fast as he can, so that he can skateboard before school.  After school he does his homework as fast as possible, so that he can skateboard some more.  Margaret will play whatever Griffin wants as long as he will play with her.  So she takes her scooter out there and follows along.  A skateboard is now the number one item on her Christmas list!  He even talked Richie into buying a skateboard this weekend, so that they can ride together.  Margaret had Richie make her a scooter ramp with some leftover wood that we had.  Here are some pictures from this weekend.
