On Thursday, we took the Moraine Park hike from the YMCA into RMNP. It was a little over 3 miles round trip.
After our hike, we played miniature golf at the YMCA. I was the mini-golf champion!
Next, we had a picnic at the Alluvial Fan which is a beautiful waterfall with a place for the kids to wade in the (cold!) water.
That afternoon, the kids and I went to the craft center at the YMCA, and tie-dyed t-shirts. We wanted to do a lot more at the crafts center, but we didn't have enough time. They had jewelry-making, pottery, painting, leather crafts and basket-making. The girls then went to a class at the YMCA called Nature Art and Griffin went to a class called Survival where he learned how to make a shelter and other survival skills. It was his favorite class of the week.
We had dinner out that night for Richie's birthday at The Rock Inn.
On Friday, we hiked to Alberta Falls which was another family friendly hike (about 1.4 miles round trip) with a beautiful waterfall.
Afterwards, we drove over to Sheep Lakes in hopes of seeing some bighorn sheep, but we had just missed them (much to Griffin's disappointment). However, we ran into the same park ranger that we had loved from earlier in the week, and she talked to the kids about sheep and elk, and we did get to see a group of elk run through the meadow while we were there.
The kids all participated in the Junior Park Ranger Program and received their badges at the end of the week.
That afternoon the kids all took an Aquatic Exploration class at the YMCA.
The following morning, we packed up and left for the second leg of our vacation!

There are also several RMNP apps that had trails, maps, etc. I did not know about this until the end of our trip, but it would have been helpful.
