For Mamie's 5th grade CLUE field trip we went to the U.S. Space Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. It brought back flashbacks to my own 6th grade class field trip to the same place. The kids have been studying gravity this semester in CLUE, and they were able to learn a lot on our trip. Mamie has made some really good friends, and it was hard to believe that this was her last field trip at Grahamwood. Time sure has flown by!
As usual, I have had fun playing with our food today. I served green milk (that I colored with food coloring) and some special edition Lucky Charms for breakfast.
This year for Spring Break we went to visit two family friends in the Mississippi Delta. Our first stop was in Cleveland, Mississippi to visit the Hendon family.
After that we headed to Indianola, Mississippi to visit the Jones family for two nights. They live out in the country, and the kids loved the freedom and all of the time they got to spend outside. The first thing they worked on was building a raft that they named "The Swordfish." It actually floated!
We are so thankful for the blessing of the friendship of these two families!
Last week Griffin and I had some one-on-one time together cooking. I let him choose any recipe, and he really wanted to make brownies. We had a lot of fun together, and he was so proud when he served them to the family after dinner.
Brownies
12-ounce bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 large eggs at room temperature
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt butter and chocolate chips. Stir constantly and remove from heat when chips are fully melted. In the same pot, blend in the sugar and vanilla. Then add eggs, blending fully one at a time. Add flour and salt and beat until air bubbles form in the batter. Pour into a 9 X 13-inch pan that is sprayed with Pam. Bake for 20 minutes. Turn heat down to 325 degrees and bake for 10 more minutes. Cool before cutting into squares.
A few weeks ago we got to see Mamie perform with about twelve of her classmates in the 2013 West Tennessee Choir performance at a church in midtown. It is made up of a select group of fourth and fifth graders from West Tennessee elementary schools. They worked really hard, and they did a wonderful job!
